my training in mathematical statistics, material culture studies, design studio, history and theory nurture a critical perspective on practical and intellectual dimensions of design. my schooling in mathematical statistics (BS statistics, 1993) has informed my analytical thinking, while my cultural studies education (MFA, 1997) induced me into critical thought within the humanities. both frameworks were integral in my book design work that came out at the SAIC (MFA, 2001). my studies at UIC (PhD in Art and Design, 2012) were critical in my understanding of the role and significance of design within the social and economic value systems of the developing and the developed world. this background continues to inform my design practice and teaching that ranges from the narrative and interpretive to the analytical and informational.
